• About Us

Encounter Theatre was set up in 2020 amidst COVID-19 in the resistance to the digitization of theatre. We believe theatre-making should be a corporeal process. We believe theatre should be a shared experience.

We love inviting artists, of all disciplines, together to our Open Jam Sessions. We value discovery and collaboration.

Acting Light: A Mask to Clown Workshop

    Tuesdays

    17 Jan - 21 march

    730-930pm

-Learn lightness, develop sensitivity, and establish complicity with the audience. Be introduced to the concept of Le Jeu (the game).

-Begin the workshop using the neutral mask to find the neutral body and eliminate any habitual tendencies. Then discover different states of being and presence through neutral mask exercises.

-Get inspired by larval masks and character masks to find different bodies and voices.

-Finally, put on the red nose (arguably the smallest mask in the world) and discover joy with the audience (and hopefully humor too).

-There will be an option to present works in progress to selected guests at session ten.

-This workshop is suitable for participants 16 years old and above. Performers of any discipline, or students of the arts, are welcome to join.
